Submitted by Iggy Koopa, February 23, 2016 at 7:43 AM.

iggykoopaThe Battle for Oz Tournament Series has come to a close and we sent it off with a great Final Round (Dorothy’s Revenge) by having 10 generals show up to do battle! There was some hard fought games, plenty of people meddling with the Winds of Magic, and in the end there was a first ever Grand Champion crowned! If you recall, we set out to have 4 tournaments that would be Wizard of Oz themed and lead up to the Wicked GT next month! Well after some thought we came up with the Battle for Oz Tournament Series!! And over the last year we’ve played 4 different tournaments – all with their own theme – and finally crowned the Grand Champion, based off of the final points standings!

There were lots of great games, dice rolls, and outmaneuvering done by everybody that was in attendance and I want to send out a huge thank you to everybody that traveled to come make Round 3 a huge success! Battle for Oz Round 3, The Lion’s Pride and the kickoff of The 9th Age!!

Submitted by Iggy Koopa, November 30, 2015 at 9:33 AM.

iggykoopaIn just a few short days we will host the first ever 9th Age tournament as we kickoff Round 3 of the Battle for Oz Tournament Series – The Lion’s Pride! We’re excited to be one of the first groups to run a 9th Age tournament and look forward to see how the game plays now with all the new changes. Plenty of us have gotten in several practice games over the last month and now are ready (at least we think!) to take any and all comers with the newest version of Warhammer! A couple notes about this weekends tournament so that everybody knows how it’s going to play out:

  • The Lion’s Pride will be using the newest release of the 9th Age ruleset – v0.9.2. So make sure to follow the link on the right hand side of the page or simply click right here and it will take you to the latest rules and all of the released books! What this means is that no matter what the crew over at the 9th Age does between now and Saturday (as far as new versions that get released goes) we will still be using the v0.9.2 rules. After that we’ll use what they come out with but we are drawing a line in the sand right now in order to avoid any confusion.
  • Battle for Oz Player Rankings! Remember that this is Round 3 of 4 rounds schedule for the Battle for Oz Tournament Series. Brian Hunter took the top spot last tournament by coming out on top but Jon Pike is hot on his heels. This tournament could have others close the gap or one person could take control of the lead and have it come down to the final tournament in the Battle for Oz Tournament Series in February. If you’d like to see the current standings simply follow this link!

And here’s the schedule:

Schedule for December 5, 2015 – The Lion’s Pride

10:00 AM – Hero Complex opens

10:30 AM – Dice drop! Make sure you’re ready to roll!

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Round 1.

12:30 PM – 1:45 PM – Lunch break @ Headshots Bar & Grill!

1:45 PM – 2:00 PM – Return from Lunch / Prep for Round 2.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM – Round 2.

4:00 PM – 4:15 PM – Break time!

4:15 PM – 6:15 PM – Round 3.

6:15 PM – 6:45 PM – Clean up and Awards Ceremony.

headshots– In between the 1st and 2nd Round the owner/operator (Ryan Revard) of Headshots Bar & Grill has generously agreed to open up his doors so that we can partake in some merry beer drinking and some great food for lunch. The Headshots Facebook page can be found here and their website can be found here.

The 9th Age Quick Updates and Battle for Oz Round 3 Tournament Schedule!

Submitted by Iggy Koopa, Novemer 4, 2015 at 2:27 PM.

iggykoopaA very important announcement came from our friends over at The 9th Age (www.the-ninth-age.com) just a few days ago… They’ve done some serious work to get the 9th Age started and continue to work hard to get it closer to being completely finished! We all know that changes will likely be made along the way but these guys have made it possible to show us updates to every one of the rule books for Warhammer! That’s right! Every army book that is in the Warhammer world has now been updated by the guys spearheading the 9th Age effort! This is important because…

  • Now that the books are released and we’ve decided to have the first 9th Age Tournament on December 5th, 2015 (The Lion’s Pride) we are now going to officially announce that these books WILL BE IN USE for the upcoming tournament and going forward. So make sure to follow the link above or simply click right here and it will take you to all of the released books! There are some great changes that have been made so make sure you get your book downloaded and printed out, update your 2,500 point army list, and be ready to go on December 5th! And remember that if you have any questions about 9th Age for us, or about any list building strategies, you can visit our forums and get involved in the discussion there! There’s lot of people excited about the 9th Age! The Midwest Gaming Alliance forums can be found by clicking this link.

Also, I wanted to take the time to post the schedule for Saturday, December 5th and to let everybody know about a small change that we’re making. Last tournament we ran a little bit late on lunch because everybody was having so much fun so we have decided to extend lunch by 30 minutes so that we can continue on with the fun provided by Ryan Revard and the Headshots Bar & Grill!

Here’s the schedule:

Schedule for December 5, 2015 – The Lion’s Pride

10:00 AM – Hero Complex opens

10:30 AM – Dice drop! Make sure you’re ready to roll!

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Round 1.

12:30 PM – 1:45 PM – Lunch break @ Headshots Bar & Grill!

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM – Round 2.

4:00 PM – 4:15 PM – Break time!

4:15 PM – 6:15 PM – Round 3.

6:15 PM – 6:45 PM – Clean up and Awards Ceremony.

Grudge Match introduced for Round 2 – The Tin Man’s Revenge!

Submitted by Iggy Koopa, October 12, 2015 at 8:27 AM.

iggykoopaWe are only a few days away from the final 8th edition Warhammer tournament for us here in the Midwest and we’re looking to send it off in style and bring on our newest adventure – Fantasy Battles: The 9th Age! We have 14 generals signed up to do battle in this last tournament and one of the coolest things about the various gamers that come to Hero Complex is there has always been friendly banter and smack-talking between players. Some guys have played each other so many times and have kept track of wins and losses and have even used their battles to bet rounds of beer, lunch, and more. One thing that we’re going to introduce for this tournament is the “Grudge Match” option!

The Grudge Match option is very simple and could make for some great games. Here’s how it works…

  • Do you have an opponent that you’ve consistently played and have always had a great time, no matter if you won, lost, or drew?
  • Do you have that one opponent that, no matter what, he seems to always get the win against you, even though there have been times that you just knew you had the game won?
  • Do you have an opponent that you just love to play and would like to get your last 8th edition games in against them?

If any of these things are true for you then with this last 8th edition tournament you have the option of declaring Game 1 as a “Grudge Match”. How it works is you simply log on to our MW Gaming Alliance Forums and check out this thread, then you call out any of the 14 generals that are currently signed up and await their response. If all the stars align, if there are no snags, and if everybody is good with the match then I’ll assign each of you to play Round 1 as your Grudge Match and the winner will be able to start off the tournament 1-0 and have endless bragging rights (or at least until the next game…)!! Other than promoting friendly banter and some good ol’ fashioned smack talk there really is nothing else that the Grudge Match does other than give you an awesome gaming experience with an opponent that you know well and will help to (hopefully) give you some great war stories to reflect upon later on in the future!

If there is no Grudge Matches for players then they’ll be assigned an opponent randomly, just like we’ve always done. So if you’re interested in calling somebody out then head on over to the forums and get your smack talk on! Looking forward to Saturday and a great turnout! Hope to see you there!
